Hi! I’m Rachel, founder of My Wild Journey. My journey began many years ago when I made the decision to have a big family instead of focusing on establishing a career. In college, I had aspirations of becoming a forensic psychologist, lawyer, or FBI special agent. Then I thought about what that would mean to my dream of also becoming a wife and mother, so I chose to set my career aspirations aside. I want to clarify that I CHOSE this life for myself joyfully, I do not regret it one bit nor do I judge anyone who makes a different decision than mine. I believe that we, as women, are all faced with this decision in one form or another. For some of us, the choice is very easy while for others, the choice is much more difficult. Whichever is the case for you, it is YOUR story and YOUR journey. I’m only here to share MY story and MY journey, and leave myself open to hopefully hearing yours as well.

husband

My husband, Tim and I have been together since 1998. I am so happy to share this journey of marriage and parenthood with him by my side. Our marriage is not always rosy, and no matter how frustrating it is sometimes, I know he is always there to support me. I also keep him around because he is super handy and does my IT work for nearly nothing. 🙂

family

Once we began to grow our family, we turned to our finances and decided that it made the most sense for me to work part time 3rd shift. Yes, I worked in the middle of the night while most of the world was sleeping so we could save on childcare. I did this for 11 ½ years, and I have to say it worked. Four children later, we never had to pay for daycare, and this was HUGE! Working 3rd shift took its toll in other ways, though. I felt I was tired and crabby ALL the time. I was not able to spend the quality time with my kids that I always envisioned. I also had to work weekends and holidays and was not able to share a bed with my husband many nights. Furthermore, I felt no one in my close friends and family really understood how hard it was to work 3rd shift. Only those that have done it truly understand. With these things in mind and my youngest headed to school in fall 2016, my husband and I decided it was time for a change.

I quit my job prior to Christmas 2015, and made the decision to begin a new journey. This decision was the impetus for beginning this blog. I wanted to bring you along on my journey to be a healthier, more involved mother. I also wanted to share with others the things I have learned through my years of motherhood. My hope is to help other mothers navigate their lives in a healthy, stress-free way.

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy reading about My Wild Journey.
